Finally.. a river!
If you follow my blog on a regular basis or are a fan on facebook, then you would know that the mighty Murrumbidgee flowing here at Taemas, was rather a lot less than the 'mighty' it is proclaimed to be!
Finally, Valentine's weekend in February we received almost 6" (146mm) of rain in 36 hours. The total of the 9 days leading up to and including this was 10".
I wish I had taken photos to document how low the river actually was, but suffice to say that previous to these days, you could walk across it in parts, and the cattle from the property on the other side of the river was spending as much time here as they were over there!
Old Taemas Bridge... washed away by massive flood waters in 1925 when the water levels actually came over the top of the bridge!
Can you imagine??
And Taemas Bridge (the new!)... located several kilometres upstream from the original washed out bridge. I have seen photos of this bridge in 1983 where the flood waters reached to a metre or two below the roadway of this bridge!
That's a lot of water!!
